  • He is "the remover of obstacles" and invoked before starting any new venture to remove any obstructions from ones path
  • Ganesh would fit in perfectly to any relaxing space where one should be at ease with themselves and their surroundings
This impressive Ganesh is hand carved from one piece of black marble. this is unusual as it is very difficult to get pieces of black marble in this large size.  Ganesh happily is seated in a very playful position with two cymbals poised to erupt in a musical vibration!  The black marble is peppered with cream and orange colored veins which are prominently displayed throughout the sculpture.  Ganesh would be perfect as a centerpiece on a table because he is viewable from every possible angle.
Ganesh is hand carved and completely one of a kind.  When you order Ganesh you will receive this exact sculpture pictured above.

About the Black Marble:  The black marble, called sange-rathek, is found in Jhansi, in the state of Bihar, India.  The stone is known for its wonderful deep black/blue color and the colored purple and yellow veins that flow through the stone.  Looking into a piece of sange-rathek is like staring into deep space and seeing distant galaxies.  It is a very unique and wonderful stone.  Sculpture is very rare to find in this stone because there are seldom pieces of raw stone large enough to accommodate a full-sized sculpture.
I always say to our customers; The sculpture chooses you, you do not choose the sculpture.
You just know when you find the right piece to bring into your home and into your heart.

"In heaven Lord Ganesh will establish the predominance of gods, on earth that of people, in the nether world that of serpents and anti-gods"
~A Hymn from Sri Bhagavat-Tathva~

The chubby, gentle, wise, elephant-headed Ganesh, or Ganesha, is one of Hinduisms most popular deities. He is the remover of obstacles, the deity whom worshippers first acknowledge when they visit a temple. He is also patron of letters and of learning; he is the legendary scribe who, using his broken tusk, which he often holds, wrote down parts of the Mahabharata epic. Ganesh is usually depicted colored red; he is pot bellied, has one tusk broken, and has four arms that may hold a pasam, a goad, and a pot of rice or sweetmeats. The sweet meats are held in a type of bowl known as a laddus. His appetite for these sweets is legendary and offerings of them are often left at his shrine.

Statues of Ganesh can be found in most Indian towns. His image is placed where new houses are to be built; he is honored at the start of a journey or business venture, and poets traditionally invoke him at the start of a book.

A pasam is a triple twine weapon. Each of the three twines represents, arrogance and conceit, Maya - the illusory nature of the real world, ignorance. In Hindu ideology weapons are a viewed as symbolic tools to destroy the ego rather than to cause any type of bloodshed. Goads (or elephant prods) are typically used to direct elephants. Goads are symbolic of how one should steer the soul away from the ignorance and illusions of this earthly world just as a mahout would steer an elephant away from any treacherous path.
Balan Arimuvani is the artist behind all our colored marble statues.  He has worked with Lotus Sculpture since we started in 2002. His small marble workshop began with only him and 2 other workers.  His business has grown to 8 marble artists and now he has a granite workshop employing 30 workers for large granite statues. He continually credits Lotus Sculpture with his success saying it would not have been possible with out the continuing commissions from Lotus Sculpture.  Balan is a good friend of Kyle Tortora, the owner of Lotus Sculpture. He has a wife and two beautiful girls.

Use a cotton cloth and gently buff the surface of the statue to bring out the natural polish of the stone.

White, red and black marble statues are easy to take care of as they just need some annual upkeep to keep them looking as they did when they were first carved. Here are some easy tips to keep your White, red and black marble statues from Lotus Sculpture looking like the gods they are:

  • Dust the statue as needed to prevent dirt build up
  • To make the statue shine use a cotton cloth to buff the sculpture
  • You can use a small amount of natural oil such as coconut oil or olive oil to further polish the sculpture
  • Use a tooth brush to get into the hard to reach spaces of the sculpture
  • DO NOT TOUCH the painted surfaces of any of the white marble statues. This will damage the painting if done often

White marble statues that are unpainted can be placed outdoors. We recommend keeping our smaller red and black marble statues as well as any painted marble statues in an indoor environment. The red and black marble statues have some delicate pieces that could chip if left outisde. The paint from the white marble statues will not last for more than 4 years if left outside so use discretion when placing your statues outdoors.
