"Let my every word be a prayer to Thee,
Every movement of my hands a ritual gesture to Thee,
Every step I take a circumambulation of Thy image,
Every morsel I eat a rite of sacrifice to Thee,
Every time I lay down a prostration at Thy feet;
Every act of personal pleasure and all else that I do,
Let it all be a form of worshiping Thee."
       - Verse 27 of Shri Aadi Shankara's Saundaryalahari

The goddess Kamakshi or Kamatchi is a form of Tripura Sundari or Parvati or the universal mother goddess.  The main abode of Kamakshi is the Kamakshi Amman temple at Kanchipuram.   Goddess Kamakshi is considered to be the representation of Shri Vidya - Shri Lalita Maha Tripurasundari - she reigns supreme in Kanchi. Kanchipuram is one of the sacred cities of Devi worship.  The name Kamatchi means "She whose eyes awaken desire, or She who has beautiful eyes".

Devi has many different names depending on where in India she is worshiped.  In Madurai she is referred to as Meenakshi, in Chidambaram, Shivakami, in Kanchipuram she is revered as Kamatchi and in Kerala she is Known as the Goddess Rajarajeswari.  In each city her likeness takes on different aspects as you can see by the variety of poses of Devi.  As Meenakshi she stands holding a parrot.  As Shivakami standing next to the Nataraja figure and sitting with sugarcane and parrot she is known as Kamatchi.  The sugarcane, parrot and arch are separate from the statue and can removed from the piece.

Lost Wax Method:  This sculpture is a one of a kind, lost wax method bronze statue hand made by the artists of South India.  The sculpture pictured is the only sculpture Lotus Sculpture has like this in our store.  When you order this piece you will receive this exact sculpture.  It is truly one of a kind as there is only one made exactly like this!  Each bronze is hand made by a group of bronze artists whose families have been crafting bronze sculptures for centuries with the art being passed on by each generation.  The hand crafted bronzes statues have an incredible amount of detail which many other mass produced, brass Hindu statues lack.  Lost Wax South Indian bronze statues are the only sculptures used by Hindu temples throughout India and the world.  Click here to learn more about the Lost Wax Method.

About the Golden Polish:  This bronze sculpture has been polished after casting giving it a golden shine.  Polished bronze murtis are often used in temples.  Temples prefer the polished bronze because the rituals involved in puja often involve bathing the bronze deity, abisheka, which naturally removes the bronze patina of an older piece.  Over time and with no periodic care the golden polish will naturally dull to form a dark patina that is naturally found on aged bronze.
I always say to our customers; The sculpture chooses you, you do not choose the sculpture.
You just know when you find the right piece to bring into your home and into your heart.
- Kyle Tortora, Founder of Lotus Sculpture
Kamatchi is the sweet Mother of love towards human beings.
She impels full control over kama

Devi is the Sanskrit word for "Goddess".  She is the core aspect of every Hindu Goddess. Devi is synonymous with Shakti, the female aspect of the divine, as conceptualized by the Shakta tradition of Hinduism. She is the female counterpart without whom the male aspect, which represents consciousness or discrimination, remains impotent and void.

Devi has many different names depending on where in India she is worshipped.  In Madurai she is referred to as Meenakshi, in Chidambaram Shivakami, and in Kanchipuram she is revered as Kamatchi.  In each city her likeness takes on different aspects as you can see by the variety of poses of Devi.  As Meenakshi she stands holding a parrot.  As Shivakami she stands next to her husband as Lord Nataraja and as Kamatchi holding fertility symbols.

Kamatchi is Devi in her creative manifestation bearing fertility symbols such as sugarcane, conch shell and parrot.  As Prakriti she balances out the male aspect of the divine.
