Brass Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara Sculpture 14"
- Avalokiteshvara is a Bodhisattva of Compassion who vowed to never rest until all beings were freed from the cycle of rebirth/samsara
- He sits in a natural seated postion of repose with one leg up and one hanging naturally down with his robe flowing between his legs and his right hand raised in the abhaya mudra, which is a hand position for divine assurance and protection
- The antique green verde-gris patina of Avalokitesvara contrasts beautifuly with the black wood of the base giving the sculptuure a refined look
This particular pose shows Avalokiteshvara in a very relaxed posture with his chest exposed. His leggings hang loosely between his two legs. His leg posture is quite unique as on leg is bent next to him in an uplifted position with the other hanging down. Avalokiteshvara wears a fancy head dress that combines his hair into a jeweled crown. This pose is a copy of a piece in the Sri Lankan National Museum. The statue has rich antique patina. Avalokiteshvara sits on a black wood base that gives the sculpture a refined look.
You just know when you find the right piece to bring into your home and into your heart. - Kyle Tortora, Founder of Lotus Sculpture
Brass statues from Bali, Indonesia do not need much maintenance. The best way to maintain the statue is to simply dust the piece periodically to keep any dirt from accumulating. Bali brass is meant only to be used indoors.
If you are really interested in making the statue shine you can use some natural oil, like coconut oil or olive oil, and a cotton rag to wipe down the metal portions of the piece. You can use a toothbrush as well to get into the small crevices of the statue like the hands and hair. This will not remove any of the natural patina on the statue.
