  • Lakshmi is seated in the ardhapadmasana or half lotus seated position and holds two lotus flowers in both her hands symbols of beauty, prosperity and fertility with her other two hands in the varada mudra, or boon granting gesture, and abhaya mudra or fear not hand gesture
  • She is seated in front of a large arch with Mahakala or Great Time on the top of the arch
  • Lakshmi's lap is overflowing with a pot of gold coins, representing the material abundance that she is known to bestow upon her followers
  • This Lakshmi statue is a handmade bronze sculpture cast by the artist Muthu and his family in South India using the lost wax process, a skill passed on for generations since the Chola period
This exquisite sculpture of Lakshmi is a magnificent representation of the Hindu Goddess of wealth and abundance. Seated on a base, she holds two lotus flowers, symbolizing purity and enlightenment. Her front right hand is held up in the abhaya mudra, radiating protection and fearlessness, while her left hand is in the varada mudra, bestowing blessings and boons to her devotees.

In this remarkable portrayal, Lakshmi's lap is overflowing with a pot of gold coins, representing the material abundance that she is known to bestow upon her followers. However, it is important to note that Lakshmi's wealth extends beyond mere financial gain; she is also the embodiment of spiritual wealth, happiness, and bliss.

Surrounded by an arch, with the fierce deity Mahakala atop it, Lakshmi is depicted as a powerful and divine figure, symbolizing the importance of upholding the dharma and maintaining balance in the world. As the wife of Lord Vishnu, she takes several avatars to accompany him on his quest, including that of Bhoodevi, the mother earth-goddess.

In this sculpture, Lakshmi seems to embody the mother, with her nurturing and abundant presence inspiring feelings of comfort and security. With its intricate details, exquisite craftsmanship, and rich symbolism, this sculpture of Lakshmi is a true masterpiece and a testament to the power and beauty of Hindu mythology.

About the Golden Polish:  This bronze sculpture has been polished after casting giving it a golden shine.  Polished bronze murtis are often used in temples.  Temples prefer the polished bronze because the rituals involved in puja often involve bathing the bronze deity, abisheka, which naturally removes the bronze patina of an older piece.  Over time and with no periodic care the golden polish will naturally dull to form a dark patina that is naturally found on aged bronze.
I always say to our customers; The sculpture chooses you, you do not choose the sculpture.
You just know when you find the right piece to bring into your home and into your heart.
- Kyle Tortora, Founder of Lotus Sculpture
"Beautiful goddess seated on a chariot, delighted by songs on lustful elephants, bedecked with lotuses, pearls and gems, lustrous as fire, radiant as gold, resplendent as the sun, calm as the moon, mistress of cows and horses - take away poverty and misfortune bring joy, riches, harvest and children."

Draped in red saree, bedecked with gold ornaments, seated on a lotus, pot in hand, flanked by white elephants, the image of Lakshmi adorns most Hindu homes and business establishments.

Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, fortune, power, luxury, beauty, fertility, and auspiciousness.  She holds the promise of material fulfillment and contentment.  She is described as restless, whimsical yet maternal, with her arms raised to bless and to grant her blessings.

Shri is the sacred name of Lakshmi.  Shri is written atop most documents and spoken before addressing a god, teacher holy man or any revered individual.  The word evokes grace, affluence abundance, auspiciousness and authority.  When the word is spoken or written an aura of holiness is established.  Whatever follows is imbued with divine blessing.  Just as the word "Om" is associated with the mystical side of life, Shri is associated with the material side of existence.

Lakshmi represents the beautiful and bountiful aspect of nature.  As Bhoodevi, the earth-goddess, she nurtures life; as Shreedevi, the goddess of fortune, she bestows power, pleasure and prosperity on those who deserve her grace.  To realize her, one must respect the laws of life and appreciate the wonders of existence.

Bronze is an extremely durable metal made from a combination of 5 metals; copper, iron, tin, with minute additions of silver and gold. This combination is called Panchaloha bronze and is the basis for making the sacred Hindu temple statues of India and the world. Copper is the most prevalent metal in the alloy. Copper also gives the metal a softer composition that allows the bronze artisans to carve the details that are prevalent in each piece.
All the South Indian bronze sculpture Lotus Sculpture carries are Panchaloham and thus suited for any home altar or community temple.

If you would like the piece to shine use a cotton cloth with some coconut oil or other natural oil to wipe down the bronze statue.

Because of the durability of the metal not much is needed to maintain a bronze sculpture. Many of our customers purchase a bronze statue and perform daily puja and abhisheka consisting of bathing the Hindu deity in ghee, milk, coconut milk or other liquids. In this case nothing is needed to keep the statue clean as it will be bathed daily. If the sculpture is used for "darshan" or simply viewing the sculpture it is best to dust the statue as needed so no dirt collects in the details of the sculpture. For both polished golden bronzes and antique patina bronze statues if you would like the sculpture to shine use a cotton cloth with some coconut oil or other natural oil to wipe down the piece as needed.

Many of our bronze Hindu statues have been placed in outdoor temples. Bronze's durability makes it perfect for cold winters and hot summers of any climate. We suggest you bathe the sculpture every couple of months so that dirt does not collect on the sculpture and then use a cotton cloth with some natural oil to give the statue a shine. Both indoors and outdoors a bronze statue can be left alone which, overtime, will give the bronze an antique patina.

On some bronze statues you can see small hints of lime green, verde-gris patina. Some people prize this color for its age others want to remove it. If you would like to remove the verde-gris use a tooth brush with some coconut oil or other natural oil and lightly go over the verde-gris. This should remove the unwanted patina from the sculpture.

Polished Gold Bronze: Many temples and homes prefer the highly polished gold bronze for temples or home altars. In order to give the statue a bright polished sheen we recommend using a cotton rag and buffing the piece. An acid like tamarind or lemon juice will help aid this process. This takes time and effort to bring out the polish. If you are looking for a short cut; some of our customers have used a product called Brasso which has been good at bringing a tarnished golden piece back to its golden shine.
